Hello, thank you for stopping by! My name's Brooke (with an "e") and the goal of this blog is to provide a helpful mix of book, film, and television recommendations and a bit of analysis. I’m an English and Communications major and have been wanting to create a space for thoughtful reflections on new media and old classics.

I thought the best way to share with you all who I am would be through sharing some of my favorite books, films, and shows so you can get a sense for the wide variety of content I enjoy and can't wait to talk about!

1. Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen is my favorite book. I read it in high school and fell in love! Since then, I've dedicated much of my time to tracking down and watching the many, many adaptations of it. Of course, the 2005 movie is one of the most iconic, but I also enjoyed the miniseries, the vlog-style series on youtube called The Lizzie Bennet Diaries (2012), and even the zombified film starring Lily James (2016). Something about love changing a person gives me butterflies! Be prepared for a period piece review and maybe some comparisons down the line!

2. Wandavision

Wandavision is next up! I have a fairly new love of Marvel films. All the time spent inside during 2020 gave me time to watch through all the films in release order. Perfect for the release of Wandavision. I'm happy to say I got to experience the fandom in real time and theorized my fair share. This show captures my love of sitcoms and morally grey heroes. Wandavision was the first of many fun Disney+ Marvel series and set high expectations for the future of the MCU. But more on that later.....

3. Tangled

Tangled is most definitely my favorite film (or at least in the top 3). It was hard choosing which Disney film to add to this list because I truly love them all, but I think Tangled has a nice mix of nostalgia and beauty that makes it worth the watch at any age. Disney was such a big part of my growing up and in some ways, still is as I go back to the classics as sources of comfort.

4. You've Got Mail

You've Got Mail is one of many films I watch whenever I'm feeling overwhelmed. The rom-com genre is filled with plenty of films with cheese that can be smelt from miles away, but it also has some of the most wonderful stories. You've Got Mail is one that makes me smile because of the dated technology, the beauty of New York, and the fun on-screen chemistry between the two marvelous leads. The romance genre is always a guilty pleasure, whether it's films or books and I will never apologize for loving them.

5. Vertigo

Vertigo is another masterpiece I had to include. When thinking about my love of films, I couldn't forget the love of classics my mother instilled in me. For about a year in high school, I spent hours searching the library shelves and the Turner Classic Movie channel for anything with Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, and many more who left incredible legacies.

6. Cinder

Cinder by Marissa Meyer is one of my favorite series of all time. I first read it when I a mere 6th grader (nearly half my lifetime ago). Each of Meyer's subsequent books only inspired me further to continue reading and writing and I was so fortunate to get the chance to let her know when she went on her Cursed tour!

Hopefully, there's something you saw in the wide variety of fandoms that inspires you to join me on my quest to put into words the love I have for these properties that's helpful and makes you (and me) think a little bit deeper :)
